Thousands of people suffering from depression have received help through the Aware loCall helpline, the depression support groups we run all over Ireland, our confidential email support service and our online support group service.
A few key facts:
- Last year, over 200 volunteer facilitators provided about 2,000 face-to-face support group sessions for those suffering from depression and their families.
- 2011 also saw the launch of our online support group service, which grew from just 2 groups at launch to about 15 at the start of 2012.
- Our loCall helpline has answered about 50,000 calls in the last 3 years. In 2011, we took 19,383 calls, a 29% increase on the year before.
- Over 90 dedicated volunteers man our helpline for almost 500 hours between them each month.
- More than 12,000 secondary-level students attend our Beat the Blues programme a year.
