Aware Discussion Board launched

We mentioned in our first email newsletter that the Aware Discussion Board was in the final stages of testing before launch... and today, we're pleased to throw open the metaphorical doors and announce that our online forums are now open for use.

The Aware Discussion Board is intended as a safe, understanding space for those suffering from depression, as well as friends and family members affected indirectly, to seek support from others with an understanding of this debilitating illness. Any registered user can post a query, a comment or, when necessary, a good old-fashioned moan for other users to respond to. Aware staff and volunteers will monitor the various forums to make sure that they continue to be welcoming and understanding.

While it is not a direct support channel in the model of our telephone helpline or our depression support groups, the Aware Discussion Board should prove to be a valuable addition to our depression support services. Through online supports like these (we are also currently working towards offering online support groups), we hope to reach even more of the estimated 400,000 people suffering from depression in Ireland at any one time, not all of whom will be comfortable calling our helpline or attending a face-to-face support group.
