This summer, we're offering you the chance to support our work by taking part in a sponsored trek in northern Spain. The week-long trip will start on 4 June 2011 and the route will cover 112km along the Camino de Santiago (Way of St. James) in Galicia. End point is Santiago de Compostela, in particular its famous cathedral.

If you're interested in taking part, or would like to request a brochure, contact Helen on 087 6794356 or email our Fundraising department at fundraising@aware.ie

Yep I’m in

I’d like more information on this when you have it. I walked the last 100 or so km from Sarria to Santiago last summer and loved it. Helping to fundraise for a good cause would enhance the experience!

Hi all,

Post has been updated with more details. The printed brochures are also coming in - to request one, just get in touch using the details above.

Great to see so much interest, should be a good experience for all who go!

Would love to do this and have e-mailed the provided address. However, the address seems to keep failing?

Posted by Ken  on  9 Feb 2011  at  17:23

Hi Ken,

I’ve checked with our Fundraising department on this - I presume you’ve double-checked the address? I’ll let you know if I get any more details.

Posted by Aware (Muiris)  on  10 Feb 2011  at  10:14

Hi Muiris,
I’m having the same problem as Ken, I am getting a failure message after sending.
Would like to sign up for the trek also.

Hi David/Ken,

I’ve just heard back from Fundraising and there seems to be a problem alright. We’re going to look into it but in the meantime, anyone wanting a brochure should call Helen on 087-6794356 or email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

Sorry about the mix-up and we’ll put the other address back up once it’s been sorted out.

Thanks all.

Great stuff, Marie Therese - something that’s on a lot of ‘to do’ lists so it’s good you’re finally getting to do it.

I have always wanted to walk the Camino. Please let me have the information to sugn up and raise sponsorship. I have sent an email to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) but as yet have not recieied a reply. I hope that is as a result of lots of volunteers signing up.

Posted by Carol Smith  on  28 Feb 2011  at  13:44

Hi Carol,

I’ve checked up on this and you should be getting the brochure sent out to you shortly - apologies for the delay but we’ll get the info to you now.

Posted by Aware (Muiris)  on  1 Mar 2011  at  16:05

Would be interested in doing it as I am a regular walker. Just one question: How much do you have to raise in sponsorship?

Posted by Leo  on  3 Mar 2011  at  12:53

Hi Leo,

The sponsorship level is €2500. If you use the contact details above though, you’ll be able to get full details of everything that’s involved.

Are there still places available for this walk, thanks

Posted by Niamh Rourke  on  17 Mar 2011  at  22:35

What a great opportunity this is.  After walking my first Camino I decided that after 17 years of antidepressent medicaiton I was now ready to see if I can live without it.  It took me one and on-half years (and a second Camino) to free myself.  I am now drug free by 4 months and doing fine.  I truly believe that my experiences on the Camino helped me and wish I could be with you in June.

Posted by Bev  on  18 Mar 2011  at  12:00

Niamh, if you get in touch using the contact details above, they’ll fill you in. The group can be different sizes depending on a few things so get in touch if you’re interested in taking part.

Bev, glad to hear you’re doing well and good luck with your recovery.

I would love to participate in this event, can you send me on some infor when you get a chance!! Always wanted to help those in need of Aware’s services. As I have such interest in helping people with issues they have.  Some members of my family have suffered with such illness (so to speak) sorry if my term illness upsets anybody not sure if its the correct term to use. So I would love to help anybody!!

Posted by Sarah Kinnear  on  1 Apr 2011  at  13:50

Hi Sarah,

No, illness is exactly right - the real issue is that too many people feel they need to hide depression away from others in a way that they’d never do with certain other illnesses.

I’ll pass on your message but remember that the easiest way to get info is to email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or call Helen on 087 6794356 as listed above.

Posted by Aware (Muiris)  on  5 Apr 2011  at  09:43

Am I too late to go on this and are there many doing it??

Posted by Cronan Scanlon  on  30 Apr 2011  at  21:46

Hi Cronan,

Yes, there’s still time (just about) to get involved - just email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or call Helen on 087 6794356 as listed above for full info.
