Press Release: Aware Christmas 5 Mile Run
Sign Up Now for Your Festive Challenge
Aware’s annual Christmas Run takes place on Saturday 10 December at 10am, following a five mile route in the Phoenix Park, Dublin. The event provides the perfect opportunity to do something worthwhile for yourself and for others in the run-up to Christmas, as well as reminding us all of the positive benefits of exercise on our mental health. You can sign up online now to take part in this festive challenge.
Participants in the run will be supporting the work of Aware by raising sponsorship for their efforts. All proceeds from the event go directly to Aware’s support, information and education services for individuals and families affected by depression. Among those who have already signed up for the challenge are Aware supporters Mary McEvoy, actress and author, and RTÉ 2FM presenter Louise Heraghty. A training diary and tips from running expert Frank Greally and fitness instructor Karl Henry are also available online.
Aware is hoping for 3,000 participants in this year’s event. The organisation relies on events such as the Christmas Run for almost 85% of its annual funding. Our services include support groups nationwide and online; loCall helpline (1890 303 302) open 365 days a year; email support service; Beat the Blues, a free secondary schools awareness programme, and a new CBT-based programme called Living Life to the Full which will be rolled out next year.
Registration for this event is €20 and every participant will receive an official race time thanks to chip timing. The race is run under AAI rules.
