Donate Some Time to Daisy Days this September:
Help Aware Defeat Depression

Be a link in the chain... Together, we can make a difference.

Aware, the national support organisation for individuals and families affected by depression, is inviting people throughout Ireland to donate a few hours of their time this September to help with the organisation’s largest annual fundraiser: Daisy Days. The event takes place in towns and cities throughout the country on September 15th, 16th, and 17th next and all funds raised by volunteers will go directly to Aware’s support, information and education services. Just a few hours of your time can make a significant difference to Aware’s work.

Aware relies on public donations and fundraising events such as Daisy Days for almost 85% of its funding each year, and the organisation is hoping for 3,000 volunteers across the country to help with local collections.

According to Kevin Smyth, CEO, Aware, money raised during Daisy Days 2010 has helped the organisation develop existing services and introduce new ones: "So far this year, we have launched a new online support group service and also increased the delivery of our Beat the Blues secondary schools programme, so more students are benefitting from that. We are grateful to everyone who supported last year and we are hoping for an even better response this time. The theme this year is: ‘Be a link in the chain… together, we can make a difference.’ The idea behind this is that there is a chain of support - from Aware and others - which can make such a positive difference in life when someone is going through a depression. And we can each play our part and be a link in that chain, by getting behind this campaign," he said.

Anyone interested in helping can volunteer as an organiser (for one, two or even three days) or as a collector (for a couple of hours on any of the days). By assisting with Daisy Days volunteers will be making a very real difference to the fight against depression and suicide. It is estimated that more than 450,000 people in Ireland experience depression at any one time with up to two million people affected in terms of providing support to a loved one going through a depressive episode.

I have helped out in Tesco, Bray, in the past and would like to do so again this year.  I would be available on Thursday 16th late afternoon or evening; or Friday 17th evening.

Could I suggest that you keep a record of volunteers from past years, and contact them to ask them if they are willing to volunteer again, as I have had to phone each year.

This isn’t a problem, except that I find that on the radio ads the phone no is given so rapidly that I don’t have a chance to write it down, and I haven’t got a good memory for numbers.

I look forward to hearing from you

Hi Janet - there must have been some mix-up with your details as we’d normally contact regular volunteers like yourself. I’ve passed on your details though and someone from our fundraising team will be in touch shortly.

Thanks for the support!
