The first of our Dublin lectures for 2012 is almost upon us.

Dr. Conor Farren, a consultant psychiatrist in St. Patrick's Hospital and a clinical lecturer in Trinity College, will give a talk tonight, Wednesday 11 January, on his specialist subject of Depression and Alcohol. There is no cost to attend and all are welcome.

The link between alcohol and mood is an important one: alcohol is a depressant and a disinhibitor, and can have a very negative impact on mood. Yet, unfortunately, an individual experiencing symptoms of depression may turn to alcohol in a futile attempt to feel better. Understanding the effects of alcohol on mood is important for individuals with experience of depression, and also for family and/or friends who are supporting a loved one.

This is always a very interesting topic so do try to come along if you are available. The talk takes place at 7.30pm in our usual venue: the Swift Lecture Theatre, St. Patrick's Hospital, James' St, Dublin 8 (map to St. Patrick's Hospital). You do not need to book but we do recommend arriving 10 or 15 minutes early to guarantee a seat.

Hope to see you there.
