Dominic Layden
Chief Executive Officer

Prior to joining Aware Dominic held senior executive roles in the UK, USA and Ireland and has also run his own restructuring and turnaround advisory business. He is former Country Manager for Motorola Ireland and a former Vice President and General Manager for a global networks division with Motorola based in the USA. He was also a former Chief Executive for Meridian Ltd and has served on numerous boards of directors. He has a B.Sc. in Management from Trinity College.

Dr Andrea Higgins
Clinical Director

As Clinical Director of Aware, Dr. Higgins is focused on enhancing Aware’s services through evaluation, research and clinical service development to ensure continued gold standard service provision. Prior to joining Aware, Dr. Higgins held a number of senior roles as a Clinical Psychologist and Neuropsychologist within both the voluntary and public sectors and has developed and provided clinical services to those experiencing depression and bipolar disorder within different clinical populations. Since 2016, Dr. Higgins has been Chair of the Division of Clinical Psychology within the Psychological Society of Ireland. She also currently holds the roles of Clinical Tutor in Trinity College Dublin and Adjunct Lecturer in University College Dublin and is a member of the European Huntington's Disease Network working groups. She was a member of the board of the Neurological Alliance of Ireland from 2014 - 2018, holding the position of Vice-chair between 2016 – 2018. Dr. Higgins completed her clinical training in University College London (UCL) and holds an MSc. in Clinical Neuroscience from the Institute of Neurology, UCL and BA in Psychology from UCD. Within her role in Aware, Dr. Higgins is committed to further developing nationwide access to gold standard services for people experiencing depression and bipolar disorder.

Brid O’Meara
Director of Services

Brid trained as a psychiatric nurse in St. Patricks Hospital, Dublin, and a general nurse in St. James’ Hospital, Dublin. Following many years of nursing experience in various roles, she became the Deputy Director of Nursing in St. John of God Hospital in Stillorgan in 2009 and having completed an MSc in Health Services Management, she moved to Director of Services with St. John of God services in 2012. Having always been passionate about mental health, she feels it is a privilege to be involved in providing mental health education, information and support to people all over Ireland and to be assisting in reducing the stigma of mental ill health.

Jamie Good
Communications & Event Manager

Jamie joined Aware in Summer 2017 as Communications & Event Manger. Prior to Aware, she spent 11 years working in PR agencies managing a diverse portfolio of clients across the consumer, technology, corporate and charity sectors. She holds a BA Hons in Psychology from NUI Galway and a Diploma from the Public Relations Institute of Ireland.

Gerry O’Brien
Head of Fundraising and Business Development

Gerry joined Aware in 2015 and his responsibilities include:  community fundraising; business development; major / corporate donor relations; fundraising events.  Gerry holds a BA in Economics and Politics and a Master Degree in Economic Science from UCD.  He started his career in the Civil Service and served for a time as Deputy Private Secretary to the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform. Immediately prior to joining Aware, Gerry spent 16 years with Bank of Ireland where he held a number of senior management positions, specialising in business development and relationship management.

Drew Flood
Business Development Executive

Drew joined Aware in summer 2014 as Business Development Executive and actively seeks new opportunities for Aware to partner with companies on Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives and corporate partnerships. With a background in the hospitality sector, Drew came to Aware following a hugely enjoyable 17 years with The K Club. He is passionate about Aware’s work, particularly the positive mental health programmes which deliver wellbeing and resilience skills to students and employees across Ireland.

Jane Randall
Administration Support Fundraising Department

Jane joined Aware in 2006, spent 7 years in the Administration Office and since then has been a member of the Fundraising Team. Her role is supporting the team in the administration of community fundraising, corporate events and Aware events. Jane enjoys the variety of her role and the interaction with people and their fundraising projects –  no two days are the same in the Fundraising Office!

Bernie McGeer
CE Supervisor & Shop Manager

Aware Charity Shop

Bernie has been working as a Community Employment Supervisor for 22 years, 14 of those at Aware.  The CE project is based in the Aware Charity Shop in Phibsborough.  The project gives work experience and training opportunities to people who have been long term unemployed as well as people who have been out of the work force through illness.  Bernie has a Management qualification from the National College of Ireland.  She really enjoys her role in a busy retail environment and is passionate about fitness.

Emma Barnes
Volunteer Training and Online Support

Prior to joining Aware Emma worked as a lecturer and tutor while completing her PhD  ‘From Despair to Where? An exploration of the lived experience of emotional distress and recovery among young adults’.  Emma joined Aware as the Support Line and Email service manager while also having responsibility for Garda vetting, complaints and issues relating to confidentiality (Designated Liaison Person). In her current role she has the responsibility for the all aspects of volunteer recruitment and training while also supporting Life Skills Online and remains as DLP. She also holds a Diploma in Child Psychology and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy as well as a Certificate in Teaching and Learning. She has a long history of volunteering and is currently a Board member with a community trust.

Rosemary Carvill
National Support Group Coordinator

Rosemary has worked with Aware since 2012. As the National Coordinator for Support Groups, she is involved with the recruitment, training and support of volunteers who facilitate Aware’s nationwide groups. She formerly worked with Business in the Community, The Sunday Tribune and worked in the UK. Rosemary has a Bachelor of Business Studies from UCD.

Dee Lynch
Training and Recruitment Officer

Dee is responsible for the training & development of existing and new Contract Trainers, a post that she started in November 2015. Prior to this, for a number of years, Dee was delivering the Life Skills Programme for adults and also in secondary schools for young people as well as Wellness@Work training for a variety of corporate clients. She is passionate about training and really enjoys interacting with Contractors to help them achieve a high and consistent quality of training aimed at helping people experiencing, and/or effected by depression, make a real difference to their lives. Dee finds her role extremely rewarding.

Maria Walsh Healy
Support Line & Support Mail Manager

Maria joined Aware in May 2018 as the Support Line & Support Mail Manager. With a background in team management and development, Maria is passionate about looking after the volunteers who offer support through the helpline and support mail services. Maria came to Aware following enjoyable team development positions in both telecoms & insurance industries, and most recently as Legal Debt Controller in the facilities services sector. Maria is also the Aware complaints and compliments representative, deputy designated liaison person for confidentiality concerns, and Garda vetting.

Suzanne Switzer
Education & Online Services Coordinator

Suzanne joined the team in Summer 2018 on maternity cover. Prior to this, she lived in the US for 12 years where she held a number of administrative and management roles. She has worked in the hospitality, tourism, construction and real estate sectors. She is currently pursuing a qualification in Counselling and Psychotherapy. Suzanne is passionate about mental health and excited to join the team in Aware as she has always wanted to work for a non-profit.

Ellen Bolger
Support Group Coordinator and Administrator

Ellen joined aware in October 2018 as Support Group Coordinator and Administrator.  Prior to Aware, she spent 7 years working in the homeless services as a Social Care Support Worker in both Ireland and Australia. Ellen holds a H.Dip in Youth and Community Work and a BA in Social Studies from Maynooth University. More recently Ellen completed her Master Practitioner Certificate in Neuro Linguistic Programming. Ellen is a personal development enthusiastic and is passionate about minding our mental health. She is delighted to be part of the team at Aware and believes providing support and information are critical to breaking down stigma. Ellen enjoys travelling in her free time.

Barbara Condon
Senior Administrator

Barbara took up the role of Senior Administrator with Aware in November 2017. She has over 20 years’ experience of working at senior executive level in the corporate and not-for-profit sector. Prior to Aware, Barbara worked as Communications Lead with An Cosán Virtual Community College; she project managed all key organisation and fundraising events during her 8 year spell at An Cosán. Barbara is a keen cyclist and hillwalker.

Hannah Gallagher

Hannah comes from a property background working in real estate for over 5 years and is an experienced administrator. She has worked in mental health and has volunteered in this area for over three years. She graduated with a BA Counselling & Psychotherapy from Dublin Business School in 2016. She is delighted to have the opportunity to work in Aware and contribute to making a difference in any way she can.

Karen Bergin
Digital Marketing Executive

Karen joined the Aware team in spring 2017. Karen holds a BA in Geography & Mathematical Studies from Maynooth University and Masters' in Sustainable Rural Development from UCD and Cyberpsychology from IADT Dun Laoghaire. She is responsible for the upkeep of the website and sharing Aware’s message across all social media channels. Karen started out in the education sector and moved to the charity sector, having previously worked in UNICEF. She is passionate about mental health and previously volunteered with Aware for a number of years.

Elisha Kenny
Accounts Administrator

Elisha joined the Aware Team in 2005 as the Accounts Administrator with responsibility for the day to day accounting function, independently audited each year. Prior to Aware, Elisha worked in the Corporate Sector in the same capacity for 10 years. Outside Aware she enjoys spending her free time with her 5 year old son who keeps her very active.
