About The Route

The French Way or Camino Francés (#caminofrances) is the most famous of all the Camino de Santiago routes, featuring in many documentaries, books and movies such as ‘The Way’.

The last section of the French Way from Sarria to Santiago is also the most social part of the route, where you will meet many fellow trekkers and find the real spirit and camaraderie of the Camino!

"I wasn’t sure what to expect from doing the Camino!!It was truly one of the most inspirational experience on lots of different levels. Getting close to nature and experiencing the hardship of the pilgrimage, learning stuff about myself along the way. I highly recommend it. The group I was with were amazing. We laughed, cried and chatted together. It’s a walk anyone can do, and the added bonus it was for a great charity." - Camino 2018

Your Support

Aware relies on the funds generously raised through campaigns such as the Camino walk to deliver our free of charge support, education and information services. Our education programmes focus on actions that can improve their situation and alleviate some of their symptoms.

"Aware El Camino 2017 was such a wonderful experience. incredible group of people, so well looked after. Excellent accommodation and food and such such fun! Would highly recommend to anyone thinking of supporting Aware for whatever reason... after all we all have our own reasons. Buen Camino!" - Grainne, Camino 2017

How to Get Involved

In addition to your flights, the land fee will be approximately €740 (which covers accommodation, airport transfers, luggage transfers daily, breakfast & dinner every day as well as ground assistance). As part of the trek, each participant is asked to raise €1,000 for Aware.

"The Camino is every bit as good as people say. Great for the mind body and soul. And the Aware walk was a great way to experience the Camino. They do all the organizing, you get to walk with a fun group of people and you even get to help a wonderful cause." - John, Camino 2017

"The age old cliché states that 'life is a journey and not a destination'! The Camino de Santiago reaffirmed this, the end game wasn't so important it was getting there that mattered the most. I connected with nature, with fellow pilgrims and most importantly with myself. I found meaning in suffering, from my own mental health issues to the blisters on the soles of a fellow pilgrams feet. You keep on walking taking it all in and letting it all out. All you need is an open mind and a pair of hiking boots, the Camino and the wonderful new friends you will meet on the way will do the rest" - Grainne, Camino 2018

"Participating in the Aware Camino Walk 2017 was a completely life changing experience for me. It’s difficult to describe in words the sense of achievement and pride you feel each day after conquering that days walk, and doing it for such an important cause like Aware keeps you constantly motivated. Walking the Camino is also brilliant for your own mental health! I went on the walk last year not knowing anyone else in our group and came back with amazing friends and fantastic memories. If you’re looking for a challenge for 2018 and would like to help support an amazing charity then this is definitely for you!" - Lisa, Camino 2017
