Dr Lisa Butterly, Historian and Patient Advocate, gives a frank introduction to her research project exploring the impact of transitioning from the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services to Adult Mental Health Services, for a young person (aged 18yrs) in Ireland. She outlines key recommendations from her research which include changing the transition structure from a “Child to Adult Service” transition to a “Youth to Adult Service” (12-25 yrs) transition and the need for a dedicated liaison programme to address the additional social and vocational needs of young people who are being treated for mental health conditions.
