Month: June 2014
Speaker: Dr. Susan Delaney, Clinical Psychologist and Bereavement Services Manager, Irish Hospice Foundation
Topic: Good Grief; Coping with Loss
Summary: Dr. Susan Delaney sets the context of this lecture about loss in it’s most general sense with a quote from Stephen Levine ‘…all of us have grief to explore, the grief of incompletion, of not having what we wish, the loss of face, the death of friends, the loss of one’s pet, good friends moving away and old pain returning, the moments of being unloved, the loss of faith…’ . Dr. Delaney talks about grief resolution, how others see grieving, how grief becomes integrated, moving from self-criticism to self-compassion, mindfulness and perspective and how to manage grief.
