From January, Aware will pilot a new online CBT programme called Mind Balance. The programme is aimed at individuals who are experiencing mild to moderate depression and is based on the principles of cognitive behavioural therapy. However Mind Balance may also be used as a preventative tool for individuals who are susceptible to difficulties with low mood but not currently depressed.
The programme is comprised of eight modules, each covering a different topic. Participants can complete the modules online, in their own time over 8 consecutive weeks. The programme is self-directed – meaning that participants can choose what module to try first and can skip backwards and forwards between modules and activities as they prefer. Each Mind Balance participant will be partnered with a ‘Supporter’, a trained Aware volunteer . The Supporter provides encouragement and feedback if the participant chooses to share any of their online work with them.
Aware volunteers can currently support 100 programme participants. 100 people have already registered between December 21st and January 2nd.We have another 100 applicants placed on a waiting list. Please check our website later in the year to see if more programme places become available in 2013.
