Tesco and Aware announce second year partnership under Tesco’s Charity of the Year Programme. Over €934,000 raised to date for Aware as Tesco’s Charity of the Year
Tesco and Aware are delighted to announce that their partnership through Tesco’s Charity of the Year Programme will be extended for a second year. Throughout 2013, Tesco employees across Ireland will continue to work with Aware to support their volunteering and fundraising efforts to raise funding for Aware’s new Life Skills Programme.
Last year over €934,000 was raised by Tesco’s Charity of the Year Programme which went towards rolling out Aware’s Beat the Blues Programme. The programme, for senior-cycle students, has been delivered to 38,100 students in 540 schools nationwide since the start of the partnership in April 2012. The funds received from Tesco meant that there was an increase of 53% in the number of students who received the programme compared to the previous 12-month period.
Speaking at the announcement of the partnership extension, Michelle Mahon, Corporate Responsibility Manager for Tesco Ireland commented, “We are delighted to extend our partnership with Aware as our Charity of the Year Partner for 2013. We look forward to working with Aware again this year to further raise awareness of depression in Ireland and we look forward to helping fund the roll out of Aware’s new Life Skills Programme.”
Dr. Claire Hayes, Clinical Director of Aware describes this partnership with Tesco Ireland as a very important one for the organisation. “As a result of the support of Tesco staff and customers nationwide, we have been able to reach an additional 14,000 students since last April: it is so significant that more than 38,000 young people in Ireland have now heard our message about the importance of mental health, how to deal with concerns they face and most importantly how to get help if they or a loved one is impacted by depression. This year the partnership will help us roll out our new Life Skills Programme to people right across the country. Life Skills aims to help people learn new ways to deal with life’s challenges and we are really excited to be in a position to offer this programme, thanks to the support of all in Tesco.”
