Confidentiality and Safety Information

We want everyone who uses our services to feel safe. Information you share with us is treated as confidential within certain limits.

While we protect your privacy, there are times when we may need to share information to help keep you or someone else safe. This may happen if:

  • You share that you have immediate plans to end your life.
  • You share plans to harm someone else.
  • There are concerns that a child or vulnerable adult is at risk of harm or abuse.

In these situations, we may share information with relevant services (such as emergency or child protection agencies) to ensure safety. Wherever possible, we will do this in collaboration with you and explain what is being shared, why, and with whom.

Depending on which service you are accessing, this may mean a volunteer or training partner or Aware counsellor may ask for further details as per the Aware policy and procedures.

We are committed to:

  • Creating a safe and supportive environment for everyone using our services.
  • Treating all information shared with sensitivity and respect.
  • Training and supporting our team to manage confidentiality and safeguarding appropriately.

We only ask for identifying details if there is a risk of harm, and we take great care to handle all information securely.

If you have any questions about our confidentiality or safeguarding practices, please reach out to info@aware.ie.
