ESB marks 90 years with staff challenge: €25,000 donated to Aware

ESB marked its 90th anniversary in 2017 with a charity challenge which invited staff to form teams to walk, run or cycle blocks of 90km between July and October. Each 90km milestone entitled the team to cast a vote for one of the six chosen charities, of which Aware was one.

The idea of the '90for90 challenge' was to improve staff health and wellbeing while making a difference in the communities in which ESB operate. The funding comes from ESB’s Energy for Generations Fund, which seeks to empower and enrich the lives of individuals and communities across Ireland. 74 teams in total took part across the country, with each participant on average clocking 442 kilometres during the four months.

Aware's Head of Fundraising, Gerry O'Brien commented “We were delighted to be chosen as one of the charities to benefit from this fantastic initiative celebrating ESB’s 90 years in business. Thank you to all the ESB employees who ‘got active’ for Aware and helped to raise an incredible €25,000 for our services.  Like the ESB, Aware helps communities nationwide focusing both on supporting those affected by depression and bipolar disorder, and providing information and education programmes to empower people to look after their mental health.”
