Maximising mental health in later life time

Event starts time:

Dr Declan Lyons is a Consultant Psychiatrist at St. Patrick’s Mental Health services. He has a special interest in the mental health of older people and his presentation ‘Maximising mental health in later life’ highlights some of the special challenges that inevitably accompany later life such as retirement, changed relationships, losses and opportunities.

Reaching later life is the unspoken ambition of most of us and within the period of what we call old age are many personal milestones. It is a time of adjustment, filled with fresh choices and new starts but also uncertainty and worry.

Taking each stage of later life from early retirement to middle and later old age, this discussion will illustrate the challenges as well as suggesting practical strategies to manage the hurdles and make the most of the opportunities presented by this chapter of life.
